Reading: We are focusing on the key details of a story this quarter by answering questions that begin with who, what, when, where, why, and how. We are learning that the characters tell us who is in the story, and the setting tells us when and where the story takes place. Please work on building comprehension at home by asking your child questions about stories.
Writing: We are focusing on the difference between informational and opinion writing and practicing different ways we can start both types of sentences. From there, we will begin exploring and writing different patterned stories to tell information and opinions.
Math: We are exploring one more and one less using a number line, manipulatives, drawings, and our fingers. Soon, students should be able to identify one more and one less automatically within 10 if they cannot already.
Science: We are exploring weather and seasons using our five senses, and learning to identify and compare these different conditions.
Social Studies: We are learning about the difference between wants (what we'd like to have) and needs (what we have to have to survive). Students will learn that the environment gives us many things that we need, and that people have to pay for their wants and needs.
