Reading: We are identifying the main idea and key details of different texts, using a bubble map organizer. We are also comparing and contrasting two texts on similar topics, using a Venn Diagram.
Writing: We are writing different types of informational text this quarter: how to stories, all about books, and writing pieces that reflect information we have researched. ln our literacy centers, we have 2 work on writing centers to reinforce our nonfiction writing: nonfiction boxes (students state informational sentences about the text shown), and evidence writing (students state evidence that can be learned directly from an image they observe).
Math: We have worked on identifying, describing, building, and comparing 2D shapes. We will now begin adding in 3D shapes, as we continue composing, writing, and speaking about shapes this quarter.
Science: We are integrating knowledge learned about properties, animals, forces and motion, and weather patterns into the texts we read and write about.
Social Studies: Students are learning about maps and models. We will embark on an exciting community project with another classroom in Australia.
